I’ll pop the kettle on, let’s have a chat… how’s your love life?

Are you looking for a book about relationships that doesn’t trot out the old ‘Women are from Venus…’ trope?
This book by D.M. Webb-Benjamin reads like a transcript of a conversation – but not like a speech but rather like a recording of a chat between you and her as you sit in a cafe over a coffee or a meal.
The words are written like she wants to give you advice but is also aware that not all her words may apply to you and is willing for you to reject her statements.
Whilst her main focus is on the female POV she uses it to also explain how a male thinks by using her own personal experiences and of those she has loved and encountered in her life.

If you prefer advice as conversational prose this is the book for you.

If you were expecting an easy answer or encyclopaedic answers to it all the questions about love and relationship – sorry but no one can do that, but Webb-Benjamin does give it a good go.

    I couldn’t put it down.

I’ve read another book based on male-female attraction (Empowered Wife) and while I enjoyed that, I felt it was quite brief and filled out with lots of examples. I’ve also followed some ‘High Value’ philosophy stuff. Those resources were helpful, however THIS book goes much more in detail with a slightly different flavour and covers a wider range of aspects, from different areas of psychology. The author has obviously done her research but what makes the book special is her personal story – which is very raw – clearly she has lived these lessons herself. It’s prompted a lot of deeper reflection even since finishing. While she obviously has her views, she encourages us to find what is right for us as individuals and make our own rules, something I’m exploring.

    Eye-opening and well written

You notice immediately that the author put an incredible amount of work in it, spoke with various different people, listened a lot, read other books on that subject and now really knows what she is talking and writing about. More importantly though, she starts out with her own experiences, her childhood and her own relationships, which gives the book not only a very personal touch but also shows that she has learned a great deal about relationships from her own past.
She explains our „love patterns“ and why we keep falling in love with the same type of men/women, even though they might not be good for us, and I thought „Oh wow, you are so right! I never even realized that before.“ And that may well be the most important lesson of this book; because only by eliminating the cause of your pain and troubles can you start all over again and do better.
The book definitely changed my view on dating and relationships and I’m sure I will try to put some of her advice into practice and see what the future will bring.

    A must read!

From start to finish, I love this book! A MUST READ for anyone who is single, dating or married and wants to improve their relationship. Dasha is so engaging, from her personal anecdotes to her witty one-liners.
Her style of writing is like she’s talking to a friend. I love that she is straight to the point but also references supportive links if you wish to delve further into the topic at hand.
Dasha’s experience in relationships makes her an authority in her niche.
She considers the struggles of both genders and is not biased to just women. She explores what men and women truly need, not what they want, and sets exercises for you to learn from. She empowers both women and men and teaches you how to have a truly healthy relationship.

Here’s “Men are from Mars, women are from Venus” for the 21st century!

What do women and men actually need as opposed to want? In what ways have both genders been mistreated by society and how to rectify that? This book is pretty much essential for those willing to invest all it takes to understand firstly themselves and secondly their partner, and to build a happy and lasting relationship as a consequence. Dasha weaves her personal story and experience with clever, actionable advice while maintaining a chatty, accessible tone. Great Christmas read!

    Tells it like it is!

If this book was around 25 years ago it would have saved me a lot of trouble (but very comforting to have my own hard won lessons confirmed within the pages)! For anyone that has struggled with boundaries, feeling like they were ‘too much’ (or too little) in relationships, or if you’re still waiting Prince Charming to save or complete you – this is essential reading.

    Clears the fog!

The author writes with energy and passion, allowing one to feel a level of connection through the sharing of her own experiences, many of which are painful. This helps one feel less alone in their own reoccuring relationship issues. Having regularly found myself going around in circles where relationships are concerned, I found this book insightful and non judgemental. It’s good to have ones eyes opened and view things from a different perspective!
